How to Cure Depression
When you spend your life around people battling with depression everyday you spend a lot of time thinking about what causes this horrid illness. You also spend a lot of time thinking about how to cure depression. Just think about all the millions and millions of lives that would be changed forever if depression were to be wiped off the earth. How many mothers and fathers would never have to lose a child to suicide? How many children would be spared the pain of losing a parent this way? The benefits go on and on.
Depression destroys lives, plain and simple. The happiest most successful person in the world can be brought to their knees by this invisible foe. Everyone no matter who you are suffers from depression at some point or another. This is normal. I don’t think you would be human if you weren’t depressed after losing a friend or family member or perhaps after a failed relationship etc, but living day in and day out with that kind of sadness is hard on a person. It robs them of focus, it robs them of purpose. If we knew how to cure depression this would all be a thing of the past. No more watching our loved ones stay in bed for days on end. No more watching them cry for no apparent reason. And no more reading their journals after they are gone only to learn how miserable they really were. We need to know how to cure depression for the good of all.
If a scientist spent their entire life researching how to cure depression they may still never find the answer. The illness shows itself differently in every person suffering from it. Some have mental symptoms, some physical, and many have both. Depression itself is a general term but the illness has many layers. Some people may be slightly depressed still carrying on a seemingly normal life. Other people may be so depressed they cannot perform normal daily functions like showering or working. Millions of people collect disability due to depression. These people who are depressed already are then expected to live on peanuts. Many times they will receive less than $600 a month and then be expected to make it. I don’t know about you but if I wasn’t already depressed that would depress me. There is no way that society can continue to handle the burdens depression puts on it. With the number of people suffering from the illness rising to epidemic proportions there is nothing left to do except find how to cure depression. Not only will we be saving the lives of those we help but we will be saving families. I have no scientific data to back it up but I’d guess that more than half of marriages fail due to one person or the other suffering from depression. We all take vows for better or worse but after you live with someone for years and they are depressed and negative day after day if wears on you. No matter how much you love that person you are frustrated by the continued sickness. You are frustrated by the lack of a cure. How can one person be sick for so long? In the case of my own mother she was sick for more than twenty five years and according to her she thought she was depressed even as a child. She didn’t do the normal things most children do. Instead she was stuck at home taking care of her wheelchair bound brother. Now she loved her brother very much and when he died in his early 20s she never fully recovered.
More than anything I wish I knew the answer to how to cure depression but it remains a secret to us all. Perhaps one day with enough money and enough research we may fully understand the inner workings of the human brain. Then and only then will we be able to fully comprehend what causes depression and once we know what causes the sickness it is only a matter of time before we find how to cure depression.
